Oil Pump: Service and Repair

1. Remove oil pan.
2. Remove the acorn nut and tapered locating screw at the side of block.
3. Remove endplay cap nut and remove oil pump.
4. Install pump into seat and position with tapered hole in body aligned with threaded hole in block.
5. Install tapered screw and torque to 16.31 ft. lbs. (2.25 m-kg).
6. Install acorn nut with new copper gasket and torque to 21.75 ft. lbs. (3 m-kg).
7. Install endplay cap nut without shim and tighten lightly.
8. Using feeler gauge, measure gap between cap nut bearing face and block through slot.
9. Install a shim with a thickness .002-.004 inch (.05-.10 mm) greater than the feeler gauge reading to obtain the correct oil pump shaft endplay. Torque cap nut to 65.25 ft. lbs. (9 m-kg).
10. Install oil pan.
