Speedometer - Inaccuracy

84peugeot01

Bulletin No. 139

Date: July, 1984

Subject: 505 XN6 GASOLINE SPEEDOMETER ACCURACY

It has come to our attention that there are some complaints regarding speedometer accuracy on 1982, 83 and early 84 (up to V.I.N. 0348081) 505 XN6 Gasoline Sedan Models equipped with automatic transmission.

Should you encounter a complaint of this nature proceed as follows:

1) Verify speedometer needle accuracy, between the measured mile markers that are visible on all major highways. Remember that at a constant speed of 50 MPH it takes 72 seconds to travel one mile. To accurately know the true speed over a measured mile, for any time taken, while maintaining a constant speed, use the following simple formula :
2) If the variation between recorded and actual MPH varies by more than 5%, then install a 29 tooth speedo driven pinion, P/N 2639.08, and a new lower speedo cable, P/N 6123.49

NOTE: FOR 1984 VEHICLES UP TO V.I.N. 0348081 THE LOWER CABLE IS NOT REQUIRED.
