CHECKING
The following procedure requires Solex angle measuring tool 9797.16, holding clamp 9797.15, and angle measuring tool support base 8.0141 BF and angle measuring tool extensions 8.0141 BE from tool kit 8.0141 ZB, Fig. 3.
1. Before using tool, check calibration by placing tool on true surface.
2. In this position, Fig. 4, needle (1) should be in front of red reference (2). Needle (3) should be in front of black reference. If necessary, set needles to correct position by loosening setscrew (5) to position tool accordingly.
3. Prepare tool by mounting extensions 8.0141 BE to tool feelers.
4. Remove throttle body from engine and place in soft-jawed vise. Position free end of return spring against vise jaw.
5. Position tool support base 8.0141 BF with clamp 9797.15. Grooves in support base should be aligned with throttle shaft. Lock support base with setscrew.
6. Position angle measuring tool with red reference mark in line with groove aligned with throttle shaft. Throttle plate angle should be 14° 30'.
ADJUSTING
1. Remove throttle return spring and retaining drum, and angle measuring tool.
2. Remove tamper-proof plug by using pair of water pump pliers with ground-down jaws and a flat-blade screw driver or punch.
3. Remove adjusting screw and clean threads. Apply thread locking compound to screw and reinstall.
4. Reinstall throttle return spring and retaining drum and angle measuring tool.
5. Adjust throttle plate position to correct angle noted in step 6 of checking procedure.
6. Remove angle measuring tool and operate throttle several times, then reinstall measuring tool and recheck throttle plate angle.
7. Coat new tamper-resistant plug with thread locking compound and install.
8. Reinstall throttle body on engine.
