Steering Column Trim Covers
Removal ProcedureCaution: Refer to SIR Caution SIR Handling Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
3. Remove the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle.
4. Remove the lower trim cover screws (1).
5. Remove the lower trim cover (2) from the steering column.
6. Tilt the lower trim cover down and slide the lower trim cover in order to disengage the locking tabs.
7. Remove the upper trim cover screws.
8. Remove the upper trim cover (2) from the steering column.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the upper trim cover (2) to the steering column.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the steering column upper trim cover screws.
- Tighten the steering column upper trim cover screws to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).
3. Match the tab slots on the lower trim cover with the locking tabs on the upper trim cover.
4. Tilt the lower trim cover up and slide the lower trim cover until the locking tabs snap into the tab slots.
5. Install the steering column lower trim cover screws.
- Tighten the steering column lower trim cover screws to 3.5 Nm (31 inch lbs.).
6. Install the tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle.
7. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
