Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
FUEL FILTER REPLACEMENTREMOVAL PROCEDURE
NOTE: Refer to Cover and Plug Openings Notice in Service Precautions.
IMPORTANT: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing the fuel system components.
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
3. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar).
IMPORTANT: There is no service interval for in-pipe fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-pipe fuel filter if the filter is restricted.
4. Disconnect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.
5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
6. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter and mounting bracket.
7. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter from the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: Refer to Fuel System Ground Notice in Service Precautions.
IMPORTANT: There is no service interval for in-pipe fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-pipe fuel filter if it is restricted.
1. Remove the protective caps from the new in-pipe fuel filter.
2. Slide the in-pipe fuel filter into the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket.
3. Install the in-pipe fuel filter and mounting bracket.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Caution and Notices.
4. Install the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket retaining bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket bolt to 20 N.m (15 lb ft)
5. Connect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar).
6. Connect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.
Tighten
Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the in-pipe fuel filter from turning. Tighten the in-pipe fuel filter outlet nut to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
9. Inspect the fuel system for leaks by performing the following steps:
9.1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
9.2. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
9.3. Turn the ignition switch the ON.
9.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
10. Install the fuel injection sight shield.
