Thermostat Housing: Service and Repair

Water Inlet Replacement

^ Tools Required
- J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure
1. Partially drain the engine coolant from the cooling system.





2. Remove the radiator hose clamp from the water inlet housing using the J 38185.
3. Disconnect the radiator hose from he water inlet housing.





4. Remove the heater hose clamp from the water inlet housing using the J 38185.
5. Disconnect the heater hose from the water inlet housing.





6. Remove the surge tank inlet hose clamp from the water inlet housing using the J 38185.
7. Disconnect the surge tank inlet hose from the water inlet housing.
8. Remove the water inlet housing bolts.
9. Remove the water inlet housing.
10. Inspect and clean the mating surfaces.





11. Replace inlet housing (2) and thermostat as an assembly.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the water inlet housing (2) and thermostat assembly.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the water housing bolts with RTV Sealer GM P/N 1052366 or equivalent.
Tighten the water inlet housing bolts to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).
3. Connect the surge tank inlet hose to the water inlet housing.





4. Install the surge tank inlet hose clamp to the water inlet housing using the J 38185.





5. Connect the heater hose to the water inlet housing.





6. Install the heater hose damp to the water inlet housing using the J 38185.
7. Connect the radiator hose to the water inlet housing.
8. Install the radiator hose clamp to the water inlet housing using the J 38185.
9. Fill the cooling system.
10. Inspect for leaks.
