Front Side Door Lock Replacement
Removal Procedure
Important:
* The door locks use the fork bolt lock design which includes a safety interlock feature. The door is secured in a closed position when the door lock fork bolt engages the striker. Rotate the lock knob rearward in order to unlock the door from the inside.
* Replace the door lock if it is faulty. Do not attempt to repair.
1. Remove the front door trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement. Service and Repair
2. Remove the front door water deflector. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement. Service and Repair
3. Remove the rods from the front door inside handle.
4. Use side cutters in order to remove the lock-to-rod clip which secures the front door outside handle rod to the front door lock.
5. Discard the lock-to-rod clip.
6. Disconnect the front outside door lock cylinder rod.
7. Remove the rods from the plastic door clip.
8. Remove the screws (1, 2, 3) which secure the front door lock to the front door.
9. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the front door lock.
10. Remove the front door lock with the inside handle rods attached, from the front door.
11. Remove the front door handle rods from the front door lock.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the front door inside handle rods to the front door lock.
2. Install the new lock-to-rod clip to the front door lock.
3. Install the electrical connectors to the front door lock.
4. Align the front door lock to the front door with the inside handle rods and electrical connectors attached.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
5. Install the screws (1, 2, 3) which secure the front door lock to the front door.
Tighten the screws in the sequence shown (1, 2, 3) to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
6. Align the front door outside handle rod to the new rod-to-lock clip, eliminating the front door outside handle free play.
7. Apply pressure to the rod-to-lock clip until fully seated.
8. Install the lock cylinder rod to the front door outside handle.
9. Install the inside handle rods to the inside door handle.
10. Install the inside handle rods into the plastic door clip.
11. Inspect the system for proper operation.
12. Install the front door water deflector. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement. Service and Repair
13. Install the front door trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement. Service and Repair
