Starter Motor: Service and Repair

STARTER MOTOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the air inlet duct to the throttle body.
3. Remove the top starter bolt.
4. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
5. Remove the lower closeout panel.
6. Remove the lower starter bolt.
7. Position the engine wiring harness aside.
8. Position the starter for access to the solenoid wiring.
9. Remove the electrical wiring.
10. Remove the starter.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




1. Install the electrical wiring.

Tighten
Tighten the cable to the solenoid 12 N.m (106 lb in)

2. Position the starter to the engine.
3. Install the lower starter bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 90 N.m (66 lb ft)

4. Reposition the engine wiring harness.
5. Install the lower closeout panel.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Install the top starter bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 90 N.m (66 lb ft)

8. Connect the air inlet duct to the throttle body.
9. Connect the negative battery cable.
