Engine Front Cover Replacement

- J28467-360 Engine Support Fixture
- J28467-400 Engine Support Bracket
- J36660-A Torque Angle Meter Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain cooling system.
3. Remove the coolant surge tank.
4. Remove the drive belt.
5. Install J28467-360 and J28467-400 onto the generator stud-ended bolt.
6. Remove the upper fasteners from the front cover.
7. Remove the engine mount bracket.
8. Raise the engine.





9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
10. Remove the right front wheel and the tire assembly.
11. Remove the right engine splash shield.
12. Remove the crankshaft balancer.





13. Remove the lower front cover bolts.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Remove the front cover and the gasket.
16. Inspect the front cover gasket. Replace a damaged gasket.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the front cover gasket. The gasket is reusable and does not require sealer.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





2. Install the upper front cover bolts.
Tighten the front cover bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Install the remaining front cover fasteners.
Tighten the front cover bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
5. Lubricate the front oil seal and the sealing surface of the crankshaft balancer with chassis grease GM P/N 1051344 or equivalent.
6. Install the crankshaft balancer.
7. Install the right engine splash shield.
8. Install the right front wheel and tire assembly.
9. Lower the vehicle.





10. Install the engine mounting bracket.

Notice: This bolt is designed to permanently stretch when tightened. The correct part number fastener must be used to replace this type of fastener. Do not use a bolt that is stronger in this application. If the correct bolt is not used, the parts will not be tightened correctly. The system or the components may be damaged.

Important: If you remove these bolts, replace with new bolts.

11. Install the engine mounting bracket bolts.
Use J36660-A in order to tighten the engine mounting bracket bolts to 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.) + 90 degrees.
12. Install the engine mount assembly.
13. Remove J28467-400 and J28467-360.
14. Install the drive belt.
15. Install the coolant surge tank.
16. Fill cooling system.
17. Connect the negative battery cable.
