81. Balance Shaft Installation

1. Apply lubricant GM P/N 12345501 or equivalent to the following areas:
^ Balance shaft thrust groove
^ Balance shaft journals
^ Balance shaft bearing inserts





2. Using two hands, slide the balance shaft (1) into the engine. Support the balance shaft during installation to prevent any damage to the bushings. The balance shaft bushings are not serviceable.





3. Install the balance shaft thrust plate.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





4. Install the balance shaft thrust plate bolts.
Tighten the balance shaft thrust plate bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
