Parking Brake Pedal: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure
^ Tools Required
- J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool





1. Remove the left side instrument panel insulator.
2. Remove the left carpet retainer.
3. Pull back the carpet for access.
4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
5. Loosen the parking brake cable and the equalizer.
6. Disconnect the front cable from the rear cable at the connector clip.
7. Remove the front cable from the connector clip.
8. Use the J 37043 in order to remove the front cable clip from the underbody bracket.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Disconnect the electrical connector at the parking brake switch.
11. Remove the three lever nuts from the body mounting studs.





12. Remove the parking brake lever with the parking brake cable.
13. Remove the cable button end from the lever clevis.
14. Use the J 37043 in order to remove the cable from the lever.
15. Remove the switch, if being replaced.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the switch, if removed.
2. Install the cable to the new parking brake lever.
3. Install the cable end to the lever clevis.
4. Install the new parking brake lever.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





5. Install the three lever to body mounting nuts.
^ Tighten parking brake lever mounting nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
6. Connect the electrical connector at the parking brake switch.
7. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
8. Feed the cable through the underbody and clip the cable into place.
9. Tighten the parking brake cable at the equalizer.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Position the carpet in place.
12. Install the left carpet retainer.
13. Install the driver's side insulator panel.
14. Adjust the parking brake. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment.
