Backing Plate: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement.
3. Remove the brake hose. Refer to Brake Hose Replacement- Rear.
4. Remove the park brake cable from the backing plate.
5. Remove the hub and bearing assembly (1).
6. Remove the backing plate (4).
7. Remove the wheel cylinder bolts and the wheel cylinder.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the wheel cylinder to the backing plate. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement.
2. Install the backing plate (4) to the axle assembly.
3. Install the hub and bearing assembly (1).
4. Install the park brake cable to the backing plate.
5. Install the brake hose. Refer to Brake Hose Replacement- Rear.
6. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement.
7. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.
8. Lower the vehicle.
