Air Cleaner Housing: Service and Repair
AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENTREMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the IAT sensor connector (2) from the IAT sensor (1).
2. Remove the MAF sensor connector (3) from the MAF sensor (4).
3. Loosen the air cleaner intake duct clamp at the Mass Air Flow Sensor end of the duct.
4. Disconnect the air cleaner intake duct (3) from the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
5. Disengage the air cleaner cover (4) latches. One latch is located at the rear corner of the inboard edge of the cover. The other is located at the outboard corner of the rear edge of the cover.
6. Remove the bolt through the air cleaner assembly to side rail.
7. Pivot the air cleaner and assembly toward the front of the vehicle.
8. Remove the MAF sensor from the air cleaner assembly.
9. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
10. Inspect air cleaner element.
11. Remove any loose debris that may be found laying in the base of the air cleaner.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install a new air cleaner element.
2. Engage the front edge of the air cleaner lid (4) into the slots in the front edge of the air cleaner base.
3. Install the bolt through the air cleaner assembly to side rail.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
IMPORTANT: The outlet of the air cleaner assembly and the MAF sensor inlet duct must be lined up when completely installed. Misalignment may cause incorrect air flow readings resulting in MIL illumination or a driveablity concern.
4. Pivot air cleaner cover and duct assembly down until the two latches in the cover engage in the air cleaner base.
5. Inspect to be sure that both latches latch.
6. Install the intake air duct over the Mass Air Flow Sensor, being careful to ensure that the intake air duct is secure around the entire outer edge of the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
Tighten
Tighten the clamp assembly to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
7. Install the MAF sensor connector (3) to the MAF sensor (4).
8. Connect the IAT sensor connector (2) to the IAT sensor (1).
