Oil Pan: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
2. Drain the engine oil.
3. Remove the oil filter cap.
4. Remove the oil filter and discard.
5. Disconnect the oil level sensor/switch wiring harness connector.
6. Remove the A/T brace.
7. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts.
8. Remove the oil pan (2) from the lower crankcase.
9. Remove the oil pan gasket. Scrape any remaining gasket material from the pan rail surfaces. DO NOT damage the sealing surface.
10. If replacing the oil pan remove the oil level sensor/switch.
11. Clean and inspect the oil pan.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Notices and Cautions.
1. If removed install the oil level sensor/switch.
^ Tighten the oil level sensor/switch to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).
2. Install a new oil pan gasket.
3. Install the oil pan (2) to the lower crankcase.
4. Loosely install the oil pan retaining bolts.
5. Install the A/T brace and the two brace-to-cylinder block bolts. DO NOT install the brace-to-oil pan bolts.
^ Tighten the A/T brace-to-cylinder block bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
6. Loosely install the A/T brace-to-oil pan bolts (4).
7. To ensure proper mounting of the transaxle, align the cast boss on the rear of the oil pan so it is flush with the rear of the cylinder block face. Use a straight edge in order to check the pan alignment from the rear of the block face to the bolt boss on the oil pan.
8. Press the forward part of the oil pan against the A/T brace. Be sure to keep the rear of the oil pan flush with the rear face of the cylinder block.
^ Tighten the A/T brace-to-oil pan bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
9. Keep the rear of the oil pan flush with the rear cylinder block and tighten the oil pan retaining bolts.
^ Tighten the oil pan retaining bolts in sequence shown to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
10. Tighten the remaining A/T brace bolts to the transmission.
11. Connect the oil level sensor wiring harness connector.
12. Install the oil pan drain plug.
13. Install the oil filter cap with new oil filter.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Fill the engine with new engine oil.
16. Inspect for leaks.
17. Verify oil level.
