Repair Instructions

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
^ Tools Required:
- J 28733 Ball Joint Separator.
- J 24319-B Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller
- J 28733 Hub and Bearing Puller

1. Raise the vehicle.
2. Remove the wheel and fire. Refer to WHEEL REMOVAL in TIRE AND WHEEL.





3. Remove the drive axle nut.
4. Remove the brake caliper bobs. Refer to BRAKE CALIPER REPLACEMENT in BRAKES.
5. Support and hang the caliper away from the brake rotor.
6. Remove the rotor. Refer to ROTOR REPLACEMENT in BRAKES.





7. Disconnect the-wheel speed sensor connector.





8. Remove the hub and bearing retaining bobs.





9. Use J 28733-B in order to remove the hub and drive axle.
10. Use J 24319-B in order to separate the tie rod from the steering knuckle.





11. Using J 36226 separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
12. Remove the steering knuckle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the steering knuckle.
2. Install the lower ball pint. Refer to BALL JOINT.

NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Install the tie rod.

Tighten
Tighten the tie rod end to knuckle nut to 10 Nm (88 inch lbs.) plus an additional 180°-300° (3-5 flats). For cotter pin alignment, tighten the nut up to, but do not exceed 60 additional rotation. Do not back off nut for cotter pin alignment.





4. Install the hub and bearing to the steering knuckle/drive axle.
5. Install the hub and bearing refining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the hub and bearing bolts to 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.).





6. Connect the wheel speed sensor connector to the wheel speed sensor.





7. Install the rotor. Refer to ROTOR REPLACEMENT in BRAKES.
8. Install the caliper. Refer to CALIPER REPLACEMENT in BRAKES.
9. Install the drive axle nut.

Tighten
Tighten the drive axle nut to 145 Nm (107 ft. lbs.).

10. Install the wheel and fire.

Tighten
Tighten the wheel and fire 140 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
