Park Brake Cable Replacement (Intermediate)
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
Caution: To help avoid personal injury, when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the opposite end from which you are removing components. The additional support will reduce the possibility of the vehicle falling off the hoist. When you are removing major components from the vehicle while the vehicle is on a hoist, chain the vehicle frame to the hoist pads at the same end from which you are removing the major components to prevent tip-off. If you fail to follow these precautionary measures, vehicle damage, serious personal injury, or death may result.
2. Disconnect the intermediate cable (2) from the adjuster (1).
3. Remove the clip (1) from the brake pipe retainer and cable.
4. Disconnect the cable from the rear equalizer (1).
5. Disconnect the cable from the bracket and the brake pipe retainers.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Route and install the cable into the brake pipe retainers and snap the cable into the bracket.
2. Connect the cable through the top support hole in the underbody.
3. Connect the left and right rear cables to the intermediate cable, using the equalizer (1).
4. Connect the clip around the cable then to the brake pipe retainer.
Torque bolt to 6.0 Nm (53 inch lbs.)
NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.
5. Connect the cable to the adjuster.
6. Adjust the parking brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Inspection (Adjustment).
