Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) - Adjustment - Column Shift
GENERAL INFORMATION
The first part of this procedure verifies that the shift cable is installed correctly, without tension. Be sure to do the following steps in order.
Adjust:
1. Turn ignition to "OFF" (unlock) position.
2. Place shift lever at "Neutral" (N).
3. Unlock shift cable at transaxle shift arm to eliminate tension.
4. Lock the shift cable.
5. Place shift lever at "Park" (P).
6. Check shift indicator for proper adjustment.
7. Check neutral start switch for proper operation.
8. Check Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) for proper operation. If problem still exists, continue with this procedure.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. LH sound insulator.
3. Electrical connector.
4. BTSI solenoid from steering column lower support with J 38778 or equivalent and then from shift control cable with flat-beaded screwdriver.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Lengthen BTSI solenoid.
2. Snap BTSI solenoid onto shift control cable and then onto steering column lower support bracket.
3. Electrical connector.
4. LH sound insulator.
5. Negative battery cable.
6. Shift transmission from "Park" To "Neutral" and then back to "PARK" to adjust the BTSI solenoid.
