Accelerator Pedal: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the fuel injection sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
2. Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator.
3. Remove the accelerator cable (5) from accelerator pedal (1).
4. Remove the bolt (3) and stud (2) holding the accelerator pedal to the bulkhead (4).
5. Remove the accelerator pedal (1) from the bulkhead (4).
6. Rotate the throttle lever.
7. Remove the cruise control cable (1) from the accelerator controls bracket (2).
8. Disconnect the accelerator controls cable (2) from the accelerator controls cable (1) bracket.
9. Remove the bolts from the accelerator controls bracket.
10. Remove the bracket from the throttle body.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTICE: Do not route flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) within 50 mm (2 in.) of moving parts unless the can be securely fastened. This is necessary in order to prevent possible interference and darnage to the component.
1. Install the accelerator controls bracket to the throttle body.
^ Tighten the bolts to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the accelerator controls cable (2) to the accelerator controls cable (1) bracket.
3. Rotate the throttle lever.
4. Install the cruise control cable (1) to the accelerator controls bracket (2).
5. Install the accelerator pedal (1) to the bulkhead (4).
6. Install the bolt (3) and stud (2) holding the accelerator pedal to the bulkhead (4).
^ Tighten the stud and bolt to 3 Nm (27 in. lbs.).
7. Install the accelerator cable (5) from accelerator pedal (1).
IMPORTANT: The throttle should operate freely without binding between full closed and wide open throttle.
8. Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
9. Install the left instrument panel sound insulator.
10. Install the fuel injection sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
