Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

^ Tools Required
- J29800 Cut-Off Tool

IMPORTANT: A service muffler is required when replacing the intermediate pipe/resonator on an originally equipped welded system.

1. Support the converter.
2. Support the muffler.





3. Remove the intermediate pipe/resonator assembly hanger.





4. Cut the pipe close to the weld at the converter and the muffler using a J29800 or a BT 8252.
5. Remove the muffler hangers.
6. Remove the intermediate pipe/resonator assembly.





7. Remove the muffler.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Loosely install the muffler with a U bolt type clamp on the following components:
1.1. The intermediate pipe/resonator
1.2. The hangers





2. Loosely install the intermediate pipe/resonator to the converter using a U bolt type clamp.
3. Install the intermediate pipe/resonator hanger.
4. Align the system for proper clearances. Refer to Exhaust System Alignment in Service and Repair of Exhaust System.
5. Tighten the pipe clamps.
6. Tighten the hanger fasteners.
7. Install the clamp nuts
^ Tighten the nuts to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
