Parking Brake Pedal: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Remove the lower I/P trim or the sound insulator panel as needed for access to the lever assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel.
2. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. Refer to Restraints.
3. Remove the front parking brake cable from the lever assembly after removing the retaining clip.
4. Remove the electrical connector from the parking brake switch.
5. Remove the lever assembly attaching nuts.
6. Remove the lever assembly.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the lever assembly onto the dash panel studs.
2. Install the two nuts at the upper rear locations and the nut at lower front location.
^ Tighten the nuts to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.
3. Install the electrical connector to the parking brake switch.
4. Install the front parking brake cable at the lever assembly.
5. Install the cable retaining clip.
6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Restraints.
7. Install the I/P lower trim or the sound insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel.
8. Adjust the parking brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Inspection (Adjustment).
