Steering Column Shrouds

DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
^ Tools Required:
- J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture

1. Remove the tilt lever assembly. Refer to TILT LEVER REPLACEMENT.





2. Insert the steering column in the J 41352.





3. Remove the two pan head tapping screws (1) from the lower shroud (2).
4. Remove the lower shroud (2).





5. Remove the two torx head screws (1) from the upper shroud (2).
6. Remove the upper shroud (2).

ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE
^ Tools Required:
- J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture

NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.

1. Assemble the upper shroud (2) and secure by using 2 torx head screws (1).

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 1.5 Nm (13 lb in).

2. Assemble the lower shroud (2) and secure by using 2 pan head tapping screws:(1).

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 3.5 Nm (31 lb in).

3. Remove the steering column from the J 41352. Assemble the tilt lever assembly. Refer to TILT LEVER REPLACEMENT.
