Seal Replacement Recommendations

Lip seals seal the rotating shaft in the following locations:
^ On the steering gear
^ On the power steering pump at the pinion shaft

Complete the following steps if you detect a leak in either of the above locations:
1. Inspect the seal.
2. Thoroughly clean the sealing surface.
3. Replace the seal as needed.

Replace the shaft only if severe pitting is present. Clean the surface of the shaft with a crocus cloth if the corrosion in the lip seal contact zone is not excessive. Replace the gear or pump only if the leaking continues after the first cleaning.
