Before Bleeding Power Steering System
When bleeding the air from the power steering system. use only clean, new power steering fluid. Use one of the following fluids:
^ Use the following fluids for a conventional climate:
- 0.47 ml (16 oz) of GM 1052884
- 0.95 ml (32 oz) of GM 1050017
^ Use the following fluids for a cold climate:
- 0.47 ml (16 oz) of GM 12345866
- 0.95 ml (32 oz) of GM 12345867
Bleed the power steering system when the following conditions exist:
^ Any components are replaced
^ The fluid line is disconnected
^ A steering system noise is audible
Bleed the power steering system in order to prevent the following conditions:
^ Pump damage
^ Improper system operation
^ Steering system noise
Inspect for the following conditions before you bleed the air from the power steering system:
^ Ensure that the hoses do not touch any other part of the vehicle.
^ Ensure that the hose connections are tight.
^ Verify that the steering system noise is not caused by a hose touching the frame, the body, or the engine.
^ Ensure that air is not leaking into the system through loose connections.
