Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

1. Disable the SIR system.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the windshield side garnish moldings.
4. Remove the Instrument Panel (IP) upper trim pad.
5. Remove the LH and RH front carpet retainers.
6. Remove the front floor console.
7. Grasp the IP accessory trim plate and carefully and evenly pull to release the retainers from the IP trim pad.
8. Disconnect the heated seat switch electrical connector, if equipped.
9. Remove the IP accessory trim plate.
10. Remove the radio control.
11. Remove the HVAC control.
12. Remove the cigarette lighter socket.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

13. Remove the LH IP insulator.
14. Remove the screws retaining the Data Link Connector (DLC).
15. Reposition the DLC out of the way.
16. Grasp the IP steering column opening filler panel and carefully pull rearward to release the retainers and remove the panel.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

17. Remove the bolts retaining the base of the hood release handle and reposition the handle out of the way.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

18. Remove the screws retaining the IP switch bank to the IP trim pad.
19. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switch bank.
20. Remove the IP switch bank.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

21. Remove the IP cluster trim plate.
22. Remove the screws retaining the IP cluster.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

23. Disconnect the electrical connector from the IP cluster.
24. Remove the cluster.
25. Remove the hazard warning and cruise control switch.
26. Remove the ignition switch.
27. Remove the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

28. Remove the bolts retaining the knee bolster bracket to the IP trim pad.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

29. Remove the bolts retaining the knee bolster bracket to the steering column bracket.
30. Remove the knee bolster bracket.
31. Remove the steering column.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

32. Using a small flat-bladed tool, carefully release the front floor console power accessory port from the front floor console.
33. Disconnect the electrical connector from the front floor console power accessory port.
34. Remove the RH IP insulator.
35. Remove the IP compartment.
36. Remove the IP compartment lamp switch.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

37. Remove the RH IP access opening cover.
39. Carefully rotate the fuse block inward to release the fuse block from the IP trim pad, then reposition the block out of the way.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

40. Remove the bolts retaining the IP trim pad to the RH hinge pillar.
41. Remove bolts retaining the center of the IP trim pad.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

42. Remove the LH P access opening cover.
43. Remove the bolts retaining the IP trim pad to the LH hinge pillar.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Removal Procedure:

44. Remove the bolts retaining the upper edge of the IP trim pad.
45. Reposition the IP wiring harness away from the IP trim pad.
46. Carefully remove the IP trim pad from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

1. Carefully install the IP trim pad into position in the vehicle.
2. Install the IP wiring harness into position on the IP trim pad.
3. Install the IP trim pad upper retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the IP trim pad upper retaining bolts to 5 Nm (44 lb in).

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

4. Install the IP trim pad to LH hinge pillar retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the IP trim pad to hinge pillar retaining bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

5. Install the LH IP access opening cover.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

6. Install the IP trim pad center retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the IP trim pad center retaining bolts to 5 Nm (44 lb in).

7. Install the IP trim pad to RH hinge pillar retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the IP trim pad to hinge pillar retaining bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

8. Align the fuse block lower retaining tabs into position in the fuse block cutout on the IP trim pad.
9. Carefully rotate the upper edge of the fuse block outward to secure the fuse block upper locking tab into position.
10. Install the RH IP access opening cover.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

11. Install the IP compartment lamp switch.
12. Install the IP compartment.
13. Install the RH IP insulator.
14. Connect the electrical connector to the front floor console power accessory port.
15. Align the power accessory port to the front floor console, then press into place to secure.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

16. Install the steering column.
17. Install the knee bolster bracket into position.
18. Install the knee bolster bracket to steering column bracket retaining bolts.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

19. Install the knee bolster bracket to IP trim pad retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the knee bolster bracket retaining bolts to 6 Nm (53 lb in).

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

20. Install the inside air temperature sensor, it equipped.
21. Install the ignition switch.
22. Install the hazard warning and cruise control switch.
23. Connect the electrical connector to the IP cluster.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

24. Install the IP cluster into position.
25. Install the IP cluster retaining screws.

Tighten
Tighten the IP cluster retaining screws to 2 Nm (18 lb in).

26. Install the IP cluster trim plate.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

27. Connect the electrical connectors to the IP switch bank.
28. Install the switch bank into position on the IP trim pad.
29. Install the IP switch bank retaining screws.

Tighten
Tighten the IP switch bank retaining screws to 2 Nm (18 lb in).

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

30. Position the hood release handle to the IP trim pad.
31. Install the hood release handle retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the hood release handle retaining bolts to 2 Nm (18 lb in).

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

32. Align the IP steering column opening filler panel to the IP trim pad, then carefully press into place to secure the retainers.
33. Install the DLC into position.
34. Install the DLC retaining screws.

Tighten
Tighten the DLC retaining screws to 2 Nm (18 lb in).

35. Install the LH IP insulator.

Trim Pad Replacement: IP - Installation Procedure:

36. Install the cigarette lighter socket.
37. Install the HVAC control.
38. Install the radio control.
39. Connect the heated seat switch electrical connector, if equipped.
40. Align the IP accessory trim plate retainers to the slots in the IP trim pad.
41. Carefully and evenly press the trim plate into place to secure the retainers.
42. Install the front floor console.
43. Install the LH and RH front carpet retainers.
44. Install the IP upper trim pad.
45. Install the windshield side garnish moldings.
46. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect.
47. Enable the SIR system.
