Hood Latch Release Cable: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDUREIMPORTANT: Block the latch in order to prevent the hood from locking until you have installed the hood release cable.
Hood Latch Release Cable Replacement: Removal Procedure:
1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the left front headlamp.
3. Disconnect the hood release cable from the hood latch.
4. Remove the front end sheet metal diagonal brace.
5. Remove the air cleaner.
Hood Latch Release Cable Replacement: Removal Procedure:
6. Remove the hood release cable retainer from the engine compartment side rail.
7. Remove the release cable through the outboard hole in the radiator support.
8. Unsnap the fitting from the hood release handle.
9. Unhook the T-slot end of the cable wire from under the hood release handle.
Hood Latch Release Cable Replacement: Removal Procedure:
10. Using a small flat bladed tool remove the grommet from the dash panel.
11. Remove the cable from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Hood Latch Release Cable Replacement: Installation Procedure:
1. Route the cable through the hole in the front of dash.
2. Apply Strip caulk sealer or equivalent to the grommet.
3. Press the grommet into place.
4. Hook the T-slot end of the cable wire under the hood release handle.
5. Snap the fitting to the hood release handle.
6. Route the release cable through the outboard hole in the radiator support.
7. Install the hood release cable retainer from the engine compartment side rail.
8. Install the air cleaner.
9. Install the front end sheet metal diagonal brace.
Hood Latch Release Cable Replacement: Installation Procedure:
10. Install the release cable knuckle into the hood latch clevis.
11. Simultaneously pulling back on cable sheath retainer to align with hole in latch.
12. Press in and snap the cable into place.
13. Install the left front headlamp.
14. Remove the block from the latch mechanism.
15. Close the hood.
