B0603
DTC B0603 BCM Internal Memory Malfunction:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The SCM stores calibrations in an Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM). When the ignition switch is first turned to the on position, the SCM performs internal tests on the EEPROM and can determine the integrity of its non-volatile memory. The SCM attempts to write to its own non-volatile memory when the ignition switch is turned from on to off.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
^ The BCM has three consecutive unsuccessfully attempts at writing to its own non-volatile memory.
^ The SCM detects at internal memory (write error) malfunction.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
The SCM stores DTC B0603 in memory.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
^ Under all fault conditions, the ignition switch must be cycled from off to on before this DTC clears.
^ The BCM no longer detects an internal memory malfunction condition (write error).
^ A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present.
^ Using a scan tool.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
DTC B0603 is related to an internal malfunction of the EEPROM in the SCM. The EEPROM is not removable from the SCM; therefore, replace the SCM. A service replacement SCM must be programmed and configured to the vehicle. Use a scan tool in order to make sure the SCM is properly programmed and configured for the correct Passlock and vehicle option content. Refer to BCM Programming/RPO Configuration for more information.
TEST DESCRIPTION
The number below refers to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.
2. Determines whether the condition is intermittent or the SCM is faulty.
