Fluid Leaks (Possible Points of Leaks)
TRANSMISSION OIL PAN OR VALVE BODY COVER OR CASE COVER^ Inspect for incorrectly tightened attaching bolts.
^ Inspect for an improperly installed or damaged gasket.
^ Inspect for a oil pan or valve body cover mounting face that is not flat.
CASE LEAK
^ Inspect the filler tube for a damaged or missing multi-lip seal.
^ Inspect for an improperly located filler pipe bracket.
^ Inspect for a missing, damaged or improperly installed TV cable seal.
^ Inspect for damaged or missing speed sensor housing and O-rings.
^ Inspect for a damaged vehicle speed sensor seal.
^ Inspect for a damaged manual shaft seal.
^ Inspect for loose or damaged transmission cooler connector fittings.
^ Inspect for worn or damaged axle oil seals.
Inspect for a damaged parking lock actuator guide O-ring.
^ Inspect for a loose governor pressure pipe plug.
^ Inspect for a loose line pressure pipe plug.
^ Inspect for a damaged case to extension case gasket.
^ Inspect for porous casting.
^ Inspect for a damaged servo cover O-ring.
LEAK AT THE CONVERTER END
^ Inspect the converter seal for the following:
- Cut seal lip (inspect the converter hub for damage).
- Bushing that is moved forward or damaged.
- A garter spring missing from the seal.
^ Inspect for a converter leak in the weld area (replace the torque converter).
^ Inspect for porous casting (case, pump, or drive sprocket support).
OIL COMES OUT THE VENT PIPE OR FILL TUBE
^ Inspect for over filling. Inspect for water or coolant in the oil (oil will appear milky).
^ Inspect for a porous case.
^ Inspect for an incorrect oil level indicator.
^ Inspect for a plugged vent.
^ Inspect for plugged drain back holes.
^ Inspect for an out of position channel plate to case gasket.
