Shift Control Replacement (Transmission Range SW)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

^ Tools Required
- J 41545 Park Neutral Switch Alignment Tool





1. Remove the negative battery cable.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Remove the shift linkage.
3. Remove the electrical connector.
4. Remove the mounting bolts.
5. Remove the switch assembly (1).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
REPLACEMENT - USING OLD SWITCH





1. Place the shift shaft in NEUTRAL.
2. Align the flats of the shift shaft with the switch (1).
3. Loosely install the mounting bolts.
4. Insert the J 41545 and rotate the switch until the tool drops into position.
^ Tighten the bolts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT: After adjusting the switch, verify that the engine only starts in PARK or NEUTRAL. If the engine starts in any other position, readjust the switch.

5. Remove the J 41545.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
REPLACEMENT - USING NEW SWITCH





1. Place the shift shaft in NEUTRAL.
2. Align the flats of the shift shaft to the flats in the switch, and install the switch assembly (1).
3. Install the mounting bolts.

IMPORTANT: After adjusting the switch, verify that the engine only starts in PARK or NEUTRAL. If the engine starts in any other position, readjust the switch using Replacement using Old Switch procedure.

4. Insert the J 41545 and rotate the switch until the tool drops into position.
^ Tighten the bolts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Place the transmission control shifter assembly in the NEUTRAL notch in the detent plate.
6. Loosen the switch attaching bolts.
7. Rotate the switch on the shifter assembly in order to align the J 41545.
^ Tighten the bolts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

8. Remove the J 41545.
