Stub Axle Shaft Sleeve Replacement

- J 41228 Stub Shaft Sleeve Installer
- J 23129 Seal Removal Tool
- J 41102 Seal Installer Tool

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Raise vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the drive axle assembly.
3. Remove stub shaft assembly (58) and the seal from transmission.
4. Remove the sleeve from the stub shaft using the J 38868.
5. Inspect the sleeve for excessive wear, scratches or nicks that may cause a leak or a damage to the seal portion. If the sleeve appears damaged, it must be replaced.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the new sleeve on stub shaft (58) using the J 41228. Install sleeve installation tool on shaft so that the collar is located in the snap ring groove.
2. Install the new oil seal using the J 41102.
3. Install two new snap rings (57) on the stub shaft.
4. Install the stub shaft into the transmission assembly.
5. Install the drive axle assembly.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Inspect for leaks.
8. Inspect the oil level.
