Brake Transmission Shift Interlock Replacement (RPO D55)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint System).
3. Remove the tilt lever. Use locking pliers and a protective covering in order to prevent damage to the tilt lever.
4. Remove the upper and lower front steering column covers.
5. Remove the steering column filler panel.
6. Insert the key into the lock cylinder.
7. Turn the key to the OFF/LOCK position.
8. Remove the screw (2).
9. Slide the Electric Park Lock (EPL) (1) out of the steering column housing assembly.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Ensure that the key is turned to the OFF/LOCK position in the lock cylinder.
2. Slide the EPL (1) into the steering column housing assembly.
3. Install the screw (2).
4. Install the steering column filler panel.
5. Install the upper and lower front steering column covers.
6. Install the tilt lever. Use locking pliers and a protective covering in order to prevent damage to the tilt lever.
7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint System).
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
