Exhaust Pipe: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
IMPORTANT: A service muffler will be needed when replacing the intermediate pipe on an originally equipped, welded system.
1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Support the three way catalytic converter (2).
3. Cut the intermediate pipe at the muffler (1).
4. For the 3.1L engine with a single exhaust remove the intermediate pipe from the three way catalytic converter.
5. For the 3.1L engine with a dual exhaust, remove the intermediate pipe from the three way catalytic converter.
6. Remove the intermediate pipe from the hanger.
7. Remove the intermediate pipe.
8. Remove the muffler from the hangers.
9. For the 3.1L engine with a single exhaust, remove the three way catalytic converter seal.
10. For the 3.1L engine with dual exhaust, remove the three way catalytic converter seal.
11. Clean the flange surface.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. For the 3.1L engine with a single exhaust, install the three way catalytic converter seal.
2. For the 3.1L engine with a dual exhaust, install the three way catalytic converter seal.
3. Install the intermediate pipe to the hanger.
4. For the 3.1L engine with a single exhaust, install the intermediate pipe to the three way catalytic converter.
5. For the 3.1L engine with a dual exhaust, install the intermediate pipe to the three way catalytic converter.
6. Install the muffler to the hangers.
7. Weld the muffler to the intermediate pipe.
8. Lower the vehicle.
