Oil Pan: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
3. Loosen the upper A/C compressor bolts, if equipped. Do not remove the bolts.
4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
5. Drain the crankcase.
6. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal in Tires and Wheels.
7. Remove the right splash shield.
8. Remove the engine mount strut from the suspension support. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement.
9. Remove the right front ABS wheel speed sensor harness from the right suspension support.
10. Remove the right front ball joint. Refer to Lower Ball Joint Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
11. Remove the right side stabilizer link. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
12. Remove the right side suspension support. Refer to Steering and Suspension Crossmember Replacement in Steering and Suspension.





13. Remove the lower A/C compressor bolts.
14. Position the compressor aside. Support the compressor. Refer to Compressor Replacement in Heating and Air Conditioning.
15. Remove the engine mount strut bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement.
16. Remove the engine to transmission brace. Refer to Transaxle Mount Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T60-E.
17. Remove the oil filter.
18. Remove the starter. Refer to one of the following procedures in Starting and Charging:
- Starter Motor Replacement (2.4L)
- Starter Motor Replacement (3.1L)
19. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.





20. Remove the oil pain side bolts.
21. Remove the oil pan bolts.
22. Remove the oil pan.
23. Remove the oil pan gasket.
24. Clean the following items:
- Oil pan flanges
- Oil pan rail
- Front cover
- Rear main bearing cap
- Threaded holes

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Apply sealer GM P/N 1234579 or equivalent to both sides of the crankshaft rear main bearing cap. Press the sealer into the gap using a puddy knife or its equivalent.
2. install a new oil pan gasket.
3. Install oil pan.
4. Install the oil pan bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the oil pan side bolts.
^ Tighten the side bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).





6. Install the transmission converter cover.
7. Install the starter. Refer to one of the following procedures in Starting and Charging:
- Starter Motor Replacement (2.4L)
- Starter Motor Replacement (3.1L)
8. Install the oil filter.
9. Install the engine to transmission brace. Refer to Transaxle Mount Replacement in Automatic Transmission.
10. Install the engine mount strut bracket. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement.
11. Loosely assemble the A/C compressor spacer and the upper bolts. Secure the spacer and the bolts in place.
12. Install the A/C compressor to the engine. Refer to Compressor Replacement in Heating and Air Conditioning.
13. Install the right side suspension support. Refer to Steering and Suspension Crossmember Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
14. Install the right side stabilizer bar. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
15. Install the right side ball joint. Refer to Lower Ball Joint Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
16. Connect the right front ABS wheel speed sensor harness.
17. Install the engine mount strut to the suspension support. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement.
18. Install the right splash shield.
19. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Installation in Tires and Wheels.
20. Lower the vehicle.
21. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
22. Fill the crankcase.
23. Connect the negative battery cable.
