Parking Brake Lever: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle.





2. Bend the tang on the connector (10) in order to allow the cable removal.
3. Pull and hold the cable (1) towards the rear of the car in order to create slack in the cable.





4. Disconnect the cable (3) from the connector (6).
5. Lower the vehicle.

Notice: Use caution when removing the spring. This is to avoid hitting and knocking the self adjusting spring loose.

6. Remove the front parking brake cable from the reel assembly on the lever.
7. Remove the cable conduit fitting from the lever assembly while depressing the retaining tangs.
8. Disconnect the electrical connector (2).





9. Remove the nuts securing the lever (9).
10. Remove the lever (9).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Connect the front parking brake cable to the reel assembly and secure the cable conduit fittings into the lever assembly (1).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





2. Install the parking brake lever (9) and attaching nuts.
^ Tighten the parking brake lever nuts to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).





3. Install electrical connector (2).
4. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle.
5. Connect the cable (3) to the connector (6).

Notice: Parking brake adjustment is not necessary. This is a self adjusting system and damage may result from attempting to adjust or modify this system in any way. It may be necessary to adjust the rear brakes to obtain the proper tension in the system.

6. Fully apply and release the foot brake 4 to 6 times in order to self adjust the system.
