Rear Suspension
^ Tools Required:
- J 23028-01 Rear Coil Spring Remover and Installer
- J 34505 Ball Joint Separator
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Adjustment link retaining nut and link from control arm.
2. Spring.
3. Cotter pin and slotted hex nut from ball joint. Turn nut over and install with flat portion facing upward. Do not tighten nut.
CAUTION: Use only the recommended tools for separating the ball joint from the knuckle. Failure to use the recommended tools may cause damage to the ball joint and seal.
4. Using J 34505, separate knuckle from ball stud. Remove slotted hex nut.
5. Control arm.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Position control arm ball joint stud in knuckle boss.
2. New slotted hex nut.
^ Tighten:
a. Nut 10 Nm (88 inch lbs.).
b. Nut an additional four flats; torque should be 55 Nm (40 ft. lbs.), minimum. It may be necessary to partially load joint to keep ball stud from rotating while nut is being tightened.
c. Nut up to one more flat to align slot with cotter pin hole.
3. Cotter pin.
4. Spring.
5. Adjustment link to control arm with retaining nut.
^ Tighten link retaining nut to 85 Nm (63 ft. lbs.).
NOTE: Control arm nuts should be tightened with the vehicle unsupported and resting on its wheels at normal trim height. Failure to follow this procedure may adversely affect ride and handling.
^ Tighten:
- Control arm nuts to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.). Optional torque: Control arm bolts to 182 Nm (134 ft. lbs.).
- Stabilizer shaft link bolt to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
6. Lubricate ball joint and adjustment link.
