Rear Suspension
^ Tools Required:
- J 214-/4- 12 Spacer
- J 21474- 18 Long Nut
- J 21474-19 Long Bolt with Bearing
- J 22222-2 Remover
- J 22222-5 Spacer
- J 23444- A High Pressure Lubricant
- J 25317-2 Bushing Receiver
- J 28685-2 Remover/Installer
- J 29376-7 Receiver Cap
- Or Equivalents
NOTE: Two different sized bushings are used in the control arm. These bushings are not interchangeable, and require different combinations of special tools for removal and installation. The following service procedures refer to these bushings as A and B.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Control arm.
2. With control arm upside-down on bench, install appropriate special tools:
a. Install spacer.
^ Bushing A - use J 22222-5.
^ Bushing B - use J 21474-12.
b. Position J 25317-2 receiver tube and J 29376-7 cap on outer side of control arm. Be sure receiver tube does not contact bushing flange.
c. Coat threaded area of long bolt J 2147-19 with high pressure lubricant J 23444-A and install bolt through receiver, cap and bushing.
d. Install remover on bolt at inner side of control arm. Position remover so small diameter end contacts bushing.
^ Bushing A - use J 22222-2.
^ Bushing B - use J 28685-2.
e. Place bearing on bolt and install J 21474-18 long nut. Bearing must be installed between nut and remover.
3. Draw bushing out of control arm by tightening nut.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. With control arm upside-down on bench, position new bushing in control arm.
NOTE: When installing new bushings, the flange end of bushing must face outward when installed in control arm.
2. Install appropriate special tools:
a. Install spacer.
^ Bushing A - use J 22222-5.
^ Bushing B - use J 21474-12.
b. Position J 25317-2 receiver tube and J 29376-7 cap on inner side of control arm. Center receiver tube over hole.
c. Coat threaded area of long bolt with high pressure lubricant J 23444-A and install through receiver, cap and bushing.
d. Position installer J 28685-2 on bolt at outer side of control arm. Position installer with large diameter contacting bushing flange.
e. Place bearing on bolt and install J 21474-18 long nut. Bearing must be positioned between nut and installer.
3. Draw bushing into control arm by tightening nut. Tighten nut until bushing flange seats firmly against control arm.
4. Reinstall control arm in vehicle.
^ Inspect rear wheel alignment.
