Power Steering Fluid Cooling Inlet Hose Line






Remove or Disconnect
1. Place drain pan under pump and gear.
2. Engine mount strut at engine. Refer to Engine.
3. Reservoir inlet hose from pump.
4. Tie straps from hose.
5. Raise vehicle and suitably support.

CAUTION: Failure to disconnect intermediate shaft from rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to steering gear and/or intermediate shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.

NOTICE: Set steering shaft so block tooth on upper steering shaft is at the 12 o'clock position, wheels on vehicle are straight ahead and set ignition switch to "LOCK" position. Failure to follow these procedures could result in damage to the coil.

6. Intermediate shaft bolt/screw (pinch bolt), and move plastic cover aside.
7. Rear frame bolt/screws and lower frame. Refer to Body and Frame.
8. Catalytic converter form exhaust manifold. Refer to Brakes and Traction Control.
9. Power steering gear heat shield.
10. Power steering gear outlet hose clip.
11. Inlet hose from steering gear. Refer to "Power Steering Gear Inlet Hose" under "Power Steering Hose and Pipe."
12. Cooling pipe from steering gear.
13. Power steering gear pipe clip bolts/screws.
14. Power steering fluid cooling pipe clips.
15. Cooling pipe from drivetrain and front suspension frame.
16. Cooling pipe and reservoir inlet hose from vehicle.
17. Cooling hose clamp.
18. Cooling pipe.

Install or Connect

NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and the joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.


1. Position cooling pipe to reservoir inlet hose until properly seated.
2. Power steering gear outlet hose clip.
3. Position and align clips to cooling pipe.
4. Position cooling pipe to drivetrain and front suspension frame.
5. Power steering gear pipe clips.
6. Power steering gear pipe clip bolts/screws.
- Tighten bolts/screws to 6 Nm (54 inch lbs.).
7. Cooling pipe to steering gear.
- Tighten pipe to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
8. Inlet hose to steering gear. Refer to "Power Steering Gear Inlet Hose."
9. Power steering gear outlet hose clip.
10. Power steering gear heat shield.
- Tighten heat shield screws to 6 Nm (54 inch lbs.).
11. Catalytic converter to exhaust manifold. Refer to Brakes and Traction Control.
12. Raise frame.

Important: When installing the intermediate shaft make sure the shaft is seated prior to pinch bolt installation. If the pinch bolt is inserted into the coupling before shaft installation, the two mating shafts may disengage.

NOTICE: Set steering shaft so block tooth on upper steering shaft is at the 12 o'clock position, wheels on vehicle are straight ahead and set ignition switch to "LOCK" position. Failure to follow these procedures could result in damage to the coil.

13. Position plastic cover and intermediate shaft bolt/screw (pinch bolt).
14. New rear frame bolts/screws. Refer to Body and Frame.
15. Lower vehicle.
16. Reservoir inlet hose to pump.
- Tighten Reservoir inlet hose to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
17. Tie straps to hose.
18. Engine mount strut at engine. Refer to Engine.
19. Fill power steering pump reservoir with fluid.
20. Bleed power steering system. Refer to "Bleeding Power Steering System."

Inspect
- For leaks.
