Installation

1. Install the water pump to the front cover. See Cooling System.





2. Coat both sides of the lower tabs of the engine front cover gasket with GM P/N 1052080 or equivalent.





3. Install the engine front cover gasket.





4. Install the engine front cover.
5. Install the engine front cover bolts.
^ Tighten the large bolts (2) to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the small bolts (1) to 21 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the crankshaft position sensor to the front cover.
7. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner.
8. Install the lower radiator outlet hose to the water pump. See Cooling System.
9. Install the water pump pulley. See Cooling System.





10. Install the thermostat bypass pipe to the water pump.
11. Install the thermostat bypass pipe clip nut to the upper intake manifold.
12. Position the power steering pump. Install the power steering pump bolts. See Steering and Suspension.
13. Install the serpentine drive belt shield.
14. Install the coolant recovery reservoir. See Cooling System.
15. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle suitably.
16. Support the drivetrain and the front suspension frame with floor stands.
17. Remove the rear drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts.
18. Lower the drivetrain and front suspension frame.
19. Install the oil pan.
20. Install the transaxle brace. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
21. Install the starter motor. See Starting and Charging.
22. Install the flywheel inspection cover. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
23. Install the engine mount.
24. Raise the drivetrain and front suspension frame.
25. Install the rear drivetrain and front suspension frame bolts. See Body and Frame.
26. Install the engine mount frame side nuts to the drivetrain and front suspension frame. See Body and Frame.
27. Remove the floor stands from the drivetrain and the front suspension frame with floor stands.
28. Install the crankshaft balancer.
29. Install the engine splash shield. See Body and Frame.
30. Install the intermediate steering shaft cover. Install the intermediate steering shaft bolt. See Steering and Suspension.
31. Install the front exhaust manifold pipe. See Exhaust System.
32. Lower the vehicle.
33. Remove the engine support fixture.
34. Install the electric engine coolant fan. See Cooling System.
35. Install the engine mount strut and air conditioning compressor bracket.
36. Install the engine mount strut.
37. Install the hood panel. See Body and Frame.
38. Install the accessory drive belt.
39. Add engine oil.
40. Refill the engine coolant. Add two engine coolant sealant pellets. Use GM P/N 3634621.
41. Bleed the engine coolant system through the air bleed vents. See Cooling System.
