Wheel Cylinder: Service and Repair
NOTE: Clean dirt and foreign material around wheel cylinder inlet, pilot and bleeder valve.REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Brake components.
2. Bleeder valve.
3. Brake pipe inlet tube nut and line. Plug opening in line to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
Wheel Cylinder Attachment:
4. Wheel cylinder mounting bolts.
5. Wheel cylinder.
NOTE: Clean old sealant from backing plate where wheel cylinder was installed. Also clean sealant from wheel cylinder if it is to be reused.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Apply Loctite master gasket or equivalent to the wheel cylinder shoulder face that contacts backing plate.
2. Position wheel cylinder and hold in place.
3. Wheel cylinder mounting bolts.Tighten bolts to 12 Nm (110 inch lbs.).
4. Brake pipe inlet tube nut. Tighten nut to 17 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
5. Bleeder valve. Tighten valve to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).
6. Bleed wheel cylinder.
7. Brake components.
DISASSEMBLE
1. Wheel cylinder.
2. Boots.
3. Pistons and seals.
4. Spring.
5. Bleeder valve.
NOTE: Inspect bore and pistons for scoring, nicks, corrosion, and wear. Use crocus cloth to polish out light corrosion. Replace wheel cylinder if bore will not clean up with crocus cloth.
1. Clean all parts in clean denatured alcohol.
2. Dry with unlubricated compressed air.
3. Lubricate new seals with clean brake fluid.
ASSEMBLE
1. Bleeder valve.Tighten bleeder valve to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).
2. Spring.
3. Seal, pistons and boots.
4. Wheel cylinder.
