Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair

Fuel Pressure Regulator Service:





CAUTION: Fuel pressure must be relieved prior to opening the fuel system. Compressed air must never be used to test or clean a pressure regulator. If needed, the filter screen should be cleaned with gasoline. The pressure regulator should not be immersed in solvent.

Remove or Disconnect:
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal
2. Clean dirt from pressure regulator assembly
3. Disconnect vacuum hose from regulator
4. Remove snap ring
5. Using a shop towel to catch any spilled fuel, lift and twist fuel pressure regulator to remove. Cover fuel pressure regulator housing to prevent contamination from entering fuel system.

Install or Connect:
1. If pressure regulator is not to be replaced with a new one, both O-rings must be replaced.
2. Lubricate both O-rings lightly with clean motor oil
3. Connect regulator into housing
4. Install snap ring
6. Connect vacuum line to regulator
8. Connect negative battery cable

Inspect:
Turn ignition switch to "ON" position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position and check for fuel leaks.
