Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair
Fuel Pressure Regulator Service:
CAUTION: Fuel pressure must be relieved prior to opening the fuel system.
Remove or Disconnect:
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal
2. Clean dirt from pressure regulator assembly
3. Disconnect fuel return line from the return tube by squeezing tab and pulling line off
4. Disconnect vacuum line from regulator
5. Remove regulator attaching screw
6. Pull pressure regulator to remove
7. Cover regulator housing fuel outlet to prevent contamination from entering the rail
8. Remove fuel return tube assembly from pressure regulator
Install or Connect:
1. If pressure regulator is not to be replaced with a new one, both O-rings must be replaced.
2. Lubricate both O-rings lightly with clean motor oil
3. Connect fuel return tube assembly to regulator. Tighten fuel return tube nut to 17 N-m (13 lb.ft.)
4. Seat regulator with even pressure
5. Connect regulator attaching screw. Tighten to 10 N-m (89 lb.in.)
6. Connect vacuum line to regulator
7. Connect fuel return line to fuel return tube
8. Connect negative battery cable
Inspect:
Turn ignition switch to "ON" position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position and check for fuel leaks.
