Balance Shaft: Service and Repair

Fig. 34 Balance Shaft Assembly Installation:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove oil pan, refer to Oil Pan. Under Engine Lubrication.
3. Remove balance shaft chain cover.
4. Loosen but do not remove balance shaft chain tensioner.
5. Remove oil pump cover, then oil pump assembly.
6. Rotate engine crankshaft until No. 1 piston is at TDC.
7. Use shaft holding tool No. J-41088, or equivalent, to prevent balance shafts from turning while loosening bolt.
8. Remove left hand threaded driven sprocket bolt from shaft.
9. Remove balance shaft assembly fasteners and remove assembly.
10. Reverse procedure to install noting to tighten assembly attaching bolts to specifications in Fig.34 .
