This bulletin is an advisory concerning required maintenance of the supercharger oil level on the 3800 (L67) engine. The procedure for checking the oil level is also included. Please mark a reference to this bulletin on page 6G-1 of the appropriate service manual.
INSPECT:
* Check oil level every 30,000 miles (50,000 km) or every 36 months.
Caution:
Do not remove oil plug when the engine is warm. Removing the oil plug at warm engine temperatures can cause hot oil to overflow. This could result in oil loss and possible personal injury.
REMOVE:
1. Wiring harness shield.
2. Oil plug.
Notice:
* The oil level should be maintained to the bottom of the plug threads. Do not use petroleum based oil. When adding oil use only GM P/N 12345982 synthetic oil or equivalent synthetic oil. Failure to do so may cause supercharger failure. Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
INSTALL:
1. Oil plug. Ensure O-ring is in place on oil plug.
2. Torque plug to 10 N-m (88 lb.in.).
3. Wiring harness shield.
