The following procedure has been revised for the 1991 and 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Please use the following procedures for removing or installing the Getrag(R) 284 transaxle assembly.
TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY
Tools Required:
J 28647-A Engine Support Fixture
J 28467-90 Engine Support Fixture Adapters
J 36462 Engine Support Adapter Leg
NOTICE: Prior to any vehicle service that requires the removal of the clutch actuator, the master cylinder pushrod must be disconnected from the clutch pedal. If not disconnected, permanent damage to actuator will occur if clutch pedal is depressed while system is not resisted by clutch loads. Master cylinder pushrod bushing must also be replaced whenever it has once been removed from clutch pedal. Refer to clutch (section 7C).
Remove or Disconnect
1. Air cleaner assembly.
2. Negative battery cable.
3. L.H. sound insulator.
4. Master cylinder pushrod from clutch pedal.
5. Exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to Exhaust System (Section 6F).
6. Shift control cables at levers and bracket. Refer to "Shift Cables" in this section.
7. Actuator and canister. Refer to Clutch (Section 7C).
8. Transaxle vent hose.
9. Upper transaxle mounting bolts.
10. Install J 28467-A, J 28467-90 and J 36462.
11. Raise vehicle and suitably support. Refer to General Information (Section 0A).
12. Front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tires and Wheels (Section 3E).
13. Vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.
14. Power steering gear heat shield screws and heat shield, power steering gear retaining bolts, and power steering cooler line screws and brackets. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump (Section 3B).
15. Frame from vehicle. Refer to Frame and Underbody (Section 10-3).
16. Flywheel cover screws and cover.
17. Drive axles from transaxle and support to body. Refer to Drive Axle (Section 4D).
18. Left engine splash shield.
19. Rear engine mount bracket brace bolts. Refer to 3.4 Liter V6 Twin Dual Cam Engine (Section 6A9).
20. Lower vehicle.
21. Lower engine.
22. Clutch fork at release bearing.
23. Raise vehicle.
24. Securely attach transaxle case to jack for removal.
25. Transaxle mounting studs.
26. Transaxle assembly.
27. Clutch release bearing from pressure plate.
Install or Connect
1. Clutch release bearing to input shaft bearing and clutch fork.
2. Transaxle assembly.
3. Transaxle mounting studs and tighten transaxle-to-engine studs to 75 N-m (55 lbs.ft.). Tighten engine-to-transaxle stud to 83 N-m (61 lbs.ft.).
4. Remove jack from transaxle case.
5. Lower vehicle.
6. Raise engine and transaxle assembly.
7. Raise vehicle.
8. Rear engine mount bracket brace bolts. Refer to 3.4 Liter V6 Twin Dual Cam Engine (Section 6A9).
9. Left engine splash shield.
10. Drive axles to transaxle and support to body. Refer to Drive Axle (Section 4D).
11. Flywheel cover and screws and tighten screws to 13 N-m (115 lbs.in.).
12. Frame to vehicle. Refer to Frame and Underbody (Section 10-3).
13. Power steering cooler line brackets and screws, power steering gear retaining bolts and power steering gear heat shield and screws. Refer to Power Steering Gear and Pump (Section 3B).
14. Vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.
15. Front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tires and Wheels (Section 3E).
16. Lower vehicle.
17. Remove J 28467-A, J 28467-90 and J 36462.
18. Upper transaxle mounting bolts and tighten to 75 N-m (55 lbs.ft.).
19. Transaxle vent hose.
20. Actuator and canister. Refer to Clutch (Section 7C).
21. Shift control cables at levers and brackets. Refer to "Shift Cables" in this section.
22. Exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to Exhaust System (Section 6F).
23. Master cylinder pushrod to clutch pedal.
24. LH. sound insulator.
25. Negative battery cable.
