Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

Fig. 2 Intake Manifold Bolt Tightening Sequence:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Disconnect all hoses and electrical connectors that will interfere with manifold removal.
4. Disconnect throttle and throttle valve (T.V.) cables from throttle linkage.
5. Remove alternator rear mounting bracket.
6. Remove A/C compressor rear brace, if equipped.
7. Remove EGR solenoid, idle load compensator and bracket assembly as applicable.
8. Remove EGR valve.
9. Remove intake manifold attaching bolts, then the intake manifold.
10. Reverse procedure to install. Torque attaching bolts to specification in sequence shown in Fig. 2.
