Radio/Stereo: Service and Repair

When installing radio, be sure to adjust antenna trimmer for peak reception. Also, be sure to connect speaker before applying power to radio.

1. On models equipped with airbags, disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. On all models, disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Pull steering column filler collar forward.
4. Position a suitable screwdriver into slot on headlamp switch knob, then push forward on clip and remove knob.
5. Remove headlamp switch bezel, then carefully pull lefthand trim cover from instrument panel.
6. Carefully pull righthand trim cover from instrument panel. If vehicle is equipped with electro-luminescent trim plate, disconnect electrical connector after carefully pulling righthand trim cover from instrument panel.
7. Remove radio knobs, escutcheons, then remove rear defogger knob.
8. Remove center trim plate attaching screws, then carefully pull trim plate from instrument panel. Carefully open retaining tabs and pull end of rear defogger control fiber optic from socket.
9. Remove screws from front of radio, then carefully pull radio from instrument panel.
10. Disconnect radio harness connectors and antenna lead, then remove radio.
11. Reverse procedure to install.
12. Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
