Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair



CAUTION: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury that may result from a fuel leak, always replace "O" ring seals exposed during component service.

Fuel Rail Assembly Removal:





REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. See MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
3. Remove the fuel rail assembly from the engine. See FUEL RAIL ASSEMBLY procedure.

Fuel Rail Assembly:





DISASSEMBLY:

1. Remove the pressure regulator retaining screws.
2. Remove the pressure regulator assembly from the fuel rail.
^ Twist back and forth while pulling apart.
3. Remove the regulator retainer.
4. Remove the fuel rail to regulator base seal, and discard.

ASSEMBLY:

1. Lubricate the new fuel rail to the fuel regulator base seal with clean engine oil, and install it in the regulator.
2. Install the regulator retainer.
3. Position the fuel regulator assembly on the fuel rail.
4. Tighten the pressure regulator screws to 5.5 Nm (49 lb.in).

INSTALLATION:

1. Position the fuel rail on the engine and attach. See FUEL RAIL ASSEMBLY procedure.
2. Connect the negative battery cable.
3. With the engine "OFF" and the ignition switch "ON" check for fuel leaks.
