Exhaust Manifold Heat And Shields:
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Oxygen sensor connector.
2. Upper and lower exhaust manifold heat shields (Items 159A and 159B).
Exhaust Manifold Brace:
3. Remove exhaust manifold brace to manifold bolt.
Exhaust Manifold To Pipe:
4. Break loose the manifold to exhaust pipe spring loaded nuts using a 13 mm box wrench.
5. Raise vehicle.
6. Thread the manifold to exhaust pipe nuts out of the exhaust pipe by using a 5.5 mm (7/32 inch) socket and rotate clockwise (as if tightening in it with right hand threads or removing a nut with left hand threads). It is necessary to relieve the spring pressure from one nut prior to removing the second nut. If the spring pressure is not relieved it will cause the exhaust pipe to twist and bind up the nut as it is removed. Relieve the spring pressure by:
- Thread one nut out 4 turns
- Move to the other nut and turn it all the way out of the exhaust pipe flange
- Return to the first nut and rotate it the rest of the way out of the exhaust pipe flange
7. Pull down and back on the exhaust pipe to disengage it from the exhaust manifold.
8. Lower vehicle.
Exhaust Manifold:
9. Exhaust manifold to cylinder head retaining nuts.
10. Exhaust manifold, seals and gaskets.
- Clean all sealing surfaces
11. If replacing exhaust manifold transfer the below parts:
- Oxygen sensor. Coat threads of sensor with anti-seize compound GM P/N 5613695 or equivalent
- Bolts and nuts.
