SUBJECT REAR WHEEL ABS SPEED SENSORS (REPLACE REAR WHEEL BEARING ASSEMBLY)

MODELS/YEARS 1989-90 CUTLASS SUPREME


CONDITION:


Malfunction of rear wheel ABS Speed Sensor on some 1989-90 Cutlass Supreme models. ABS dash light comes on, ABS Diagnostics points to the rear sensor. If the ABS light is on, only the anti-lock feature is inoperative. The normal brake system is still 100% functional.

CAUSE:


The malfunction may be caused by water intrusion past the seal on the ABS Sensor.

CORRECTION:


The ABS Sensor is not serviced separately, replace the rear wheel bearing assemblies with P/N 7466987 bearings.

Part is currently available from GMSPO.


If a vehicle encounters this condition, both rear wheel bearing assemblies should be replaced.


Bearings with an improved seal entered production with vehicle number LD371245.










IMPORTANT: When removing the ABS electrical connector, refer to the illustrations on the back of this bulletin to insure against damaging any part of the connector which uses CPA (Connector Position Assurance) locking pins.
