Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

Fig. 2 Intake Manifold Tightening Sequence:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2. Remove serpentine drive belt, then alternator and bracket.
3. Remove power steering pump braces, then coolant bypass hose.
4. Remove air inlet duct, heater pipe and upper radiator hose.
5. Remove throttle cable bracket and cables from throttle body.
6. Remove vacuum lines and wiring connectors as necessary.
7. Remove fuel lines. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE/RELIEVING FUEL SYSTEM PRESSUREfor fuel pressure bleed procedure.
8. Remove heater hose from throttle body.
9. Remove intake manifold attaching bolts, then intake manifold.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply suitable sealer to ends of manifold seals.
b. Apply thread lock compound No. 12345493 or equivalent, to intake manifold bolt threads before assembly.
c. Torque intake manifold bolts twice to 89 inch lbs., in sequence shown in Fig. 2.
