Oil Pan: Service and Repair
This article has been updated with TSB 89-T-150.OIL PAN
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
3. Drain engine oil.
4. Exhaust pipe, disconnect at manifold and hanger to swing out of way.
5. Starter cover and flywheel cover.
6. Starter.
7. Oil pan bolts.
8. Oil pan.
CLEAN
^ Sealing surfaces on oil pan, front cover and cylinder block
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Apply RTV sealer GM pin 12345739 (or equivalent).
2. Oil pan and retaining bolts.
TIGHTEN
The following illustration shows the correct oil pan bolt size, location and torque value. Please note that there are different bolt sizes and torque values.
3. Starter.
4. Starter cover and flywheel cover.
5. Exhaust pipe.
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Engine oil.
8. Negative battery cable.
INSPECT
^ Engine oil level.
^ For leaks.
